Most valuable free agent: Previously at Tottenham Serge Aurier joins Villarreal

Serge Aurier has found a new club. The wing-back has joined Villarreal where he has signed a contract until 2022 with an option for two additional years. First reported by L'Équipe and Marca the transfer was made official on Monday. After Tottenham Hotspur terminated his contract, the defender, who has a market value of €20 million, was the most valuable free agent still available (overview). 

Contract talks were concluded on Sunday when Aurier was on location. The captain of the Ivorian national team will be reunited with head coach Unai Emery for whom he played 32 games in 2016/17 at PSG (five goals and 15 assists).

Over the last four years, Aurier has managed 110 appearances for Tottenham (eight goals and 17 assists) but has also struggled with injuries. "I have always enjoyed my time at the Spurs but I think it is now time for a new challenge," Aurier said when he left the North London-based club.
